The Red Sox then thrashed the Tampa Bay Rays and outworked the Detroit Tigers to earn their third World Series berth this millennium. In the Fall Classic, Boston discarded the St. Louis Cardinals in six games to claim its eighth Commissioner’s Trophy. Beloved designated hitter David Ortiz batted .688 with two homers and six RBI to grab the MVP accolades.
