Scottie Scheffler Wins 2nd Masters Title

Sunday’s ending always felt like the likeliest outcome. After entering the final day of the Masters with a one-shot lead, Scottie Scheffler dominated the field over the final 11 holes.

Just weeks after becoming the first man to win the Players Championship in back-to-back years, Scheffler became the fourth-youngest player to win multiple Masters — the star is turning 28 in June. At this point, Scheffler ending a tournament on top seems like a mere formality.

The world’s No. 1 golfer has won nine PGA Tour events since February 2022 and is currently on a heater that hasn’t been matched by many players over the years. Including the Masters, Scheffler has won three of his last four tournaments — and he finished T2 at the Texas Children’s Houston Open.

After seven holes Sunday afternoon, Scheffler was +1 for the day after bogeying holes 4 and 7. However, he turned it on at the turn and ran away from the competition. Three birdies in a row on holes 8, 9 and 10 gave the star breathing room and he finished the back-nine with a -3.

Scheffler finished the tournament at -11 — four strokes ahead of Sweden’s Ludvig Åberg.

“I feel like I’m playing really good golf right now,” Scheffler said. “I feel like I’m in control of my emotions as I’ve ever been, which is a good place to be. I feel like I’m maturing as a person on the golf course, which is a good place to be. I think it’s hard to argue with the results of the last few weeks. I’ve been playing some nice golf. But I really try to not focus too much on the past.”

Arguably the best golfer we’ve seen since Tiger Woods in his prime, Scheffler is seemingly getting better with each passing tournament. Following his victory, Scheffler’s caddie Ted Scott shared his thoughts on Scheffler’s talent:

“I’m just pinching myself honestly. I don’t really know what I’m seeing. The guy is special. He’s a different kind of special. I think we’re all seeing it, and we’re all questioning, ‘Where did this come from?’ What is he not good at?” Scott said. “I don’t know. I think his superpower is [that] people that are super powerful are good at everything, and he seems to be good at everything. He doesn’t really have a weakness. I think people created a weakness in his putting. He’s not a weak putter. He’s a good putter. He’s a very good putter.”
