The German is set to return to the world of football, but this time not in his usual role of manager.
The 57-year-old former Liverpool coach has now taken a new job at Red Bull — titled ‘Head of Global Soccer’. The role involves him in the operations of all of Red Bull’s football clubs, which are Red Bull Leipzig (Germany), Red Bull Salzburg (Austria), Red Bull New York (USA), Red Bull Bragantino (Brazil), and Omiya Ardija in Japan, which the recently company acquired.
“After 25 years on the sideline, I could not be more excited to get involved in a project like this,” said Klopp. “The role may have changed, but the passion for football and the people who make the game what it is has not.”
According to Florian Plettenberg, one of the German journalists who broke the story on social media platform X, tweeted “Starting on January 1, 2025… (Klopp) will advise all Red Bull teams on coaching matters, playing philosophy, development, and transfers of talents/head coaches, and more. Oliver Mintzlaff was determined to get Klopp.”
It is his first official role in football since his departure from Liverpool at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.
For Germany fans who were hoping Klopp would become the next coach of the German National team—as has been rumored for years—don’t fret just yet. According to multiple reports in German media, there is a clause in Klopp’s contract that will allow him to break it to become the coach of the German national team, should it become available at the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.
“By joining Red Bull at a global level, I want to develop, improve, and support the incredible football talent that we have at our disposal. There are many ways that we can do this from using the elite knowledge and experience that Red Bull possesses to learning from other sports and other industries,” Klopp said.
“Together we can discover what is possible. I see my role primarily as a mentor for the coaches and management of the Red Bull clubs but ultimately I am one part of an organisation that is unique, innovative and forward looking. As I said, this could not excite me more.”
