20. G/DT/TE Ed Sprinkle
Accolades: NFL Champion, 4-time Pro Bowler, 2-time First-Team All-Pro, 3-time Second-Team All-Pro, ’40s All-Decade Team
The game of football was certainly a lot different during Sprinkle’s era. A player of similar size to Sprinkle (6-foot-1, 200-pounds) would likely be a defensive back or a wide receiver in today’s game. However, despite his lack of size, Sprinkle was one of the most feared defensive ends in the league during the 1940s. He’s known for being one of the first players to gain notoriety for rushing the passer, and helped set the stage for all of the famous edge rushers we would see in the years proceeding him.
