Tom Brady Sparks Talk of Potential NFL Return

The G.O.A.T. may not be done with football after all. On Thursday, the sports world was let in on a secret courtesy of Tom Brady.

While appearing on the “Deep Cut” podcast — a show hosted by barber Vic Blends — Brady was asked if he would be interested in coming out of retirement if an NFL team came calling.

“I’m not opposed to it,” Brady said. “I don’t know if they are going to let me if I become an owner of an NFL team. I’m always going to be in good shape. I’ll always be able to throw the ball. So, to come in for a little bit, like MJ [Michael Jordan] coming back, I don’t know if they would let me. But I wouldn’t be opposed to it.”

Brady’s response followed Blends putting forth a hypothetical scenario in which the San Francisco 49ers — Brady’s hometown team — needed help at quarterback heading into the playoffs. In addition to the Niners, Brady mentioned the Las Vegas Raiders and New England Patriots.

Three months after retiring from the NFL, in May 2023, Brady and Raiders owner Mark Davis reached an agreement that would see Brady joining Vegas’ ownership group. As of today, the NFL has yet to approve the deal. During the league’s annual meeting in March, commissioner Roger Goodell said the league has a “very thorough process” and added that he believes “it’s been making progress.”

Brady’s answer will surely generate a ton of conversations over the next few months and into the 2024 season. The question is, will any NFL teams come calling with the knowledge that Brady is possibly open to a return?
