Week 3 was a crazy one, as we saw the underdog cover or win outright in 11 of the 16 games. That isn’t likely to repeat itself in Week 4, as favorites are already 1-0 thanks to Green Bay’s beat-down of the Chicago Bears. The Packers were one of a few elite teams who struggled last week against a lesser opponent, as teams like the Steelers and Patriots will now look to replicate Green Bay’s success. After two overtime games and a game-winning touchdown with no time remaining called back in Week 3, we can only hope Week 4 offers close to the same excitement.
Here are my 5 best bets for a Week 4 offering plenty of marquee match-ups:
New Orleans Saints vs. Miami Dolphins (in London) OVER 50.5 points
The NFL is impossible to predict, but games taking place in London always seem to add an even more bizarre layer to a game. Last week, we unexpectedly saw Baltimore get routed 44-7 by an underdog Jaguars squad, but I’ll go out on a limb and say this London match-up is decided by less than 37 points.
Both teams feature plenty of playmakers, and neither secondary strikes fear in opposing offenses. After Miami was embarrassingly held scoreless the first 59 minutes and 45 seconds last week against the Jets, I expect them to rebound against a pitiful New Orleans defense. Add in the always explosive Saints offense, and this one should be a shoot-out.
Prediction: 35-31 Saints
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens UNDER 42.5 points
When the Steelers and Ravens square off against one another, it’s always safe to assume a physical, low-scoring game. Pittsburgh’s offense has yet to find its groove, and Baltimore’s offense is so mundane that it’s difficult to imagine a groove even exists. With sole possession of first place in the division on the line, don’t expect either offense to shine in this one.
Prediction: 20-17 Steelers
LOS ANGELES RAMS (+7.5) vs. Dallas Cowboys
Don’t look now, but the Los Angeles Rams are the highest scoring team in the league (35.7 points per game) through the first three weeks of the season. While the defense has underachieved thus far, the Rams head to Dallas confident. Dallas should have its way running the football, but Jared Goff and the surprisingly dynamic offense will keep pace against the Cowboys’ unintimidating defense. The Rams give Dallas all it can handle, but the home team ekes out a narrow victory.
Prediction: 27-24 Cowboys
Philadelphia Eagles vs. LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (-1)
It’s only Week 4, but this is already a must-win game for the Los Angeles Chargers. Two last second field goal misses have LA’s newest team sitting at 0-3 instead of 2-1, and an 0-4 start would essentially eliminate any chance of reaching the postseason in 2017. While Carson Wentz and the Eagles have impressed through the first three weeks, they enter this game far from full strength. Philly’s defense will be without Fletcher Cox and Ronald Darby, and I fully expect Philip Rivers and the Chargers’ offense to capitalize.
Prediction: 31-17 Chargers
Washington Redskins vs. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (-7)
Washington is coming off an impressive victory over the Oakland Raiders, while the Chiefs are one of only two teams entering Week 4 with a 3-0 record. This Monday Night showdown should be a great one, but it’s hard to pick against the Chiefs right now. Their defense looks phenomenal, Alex Smith is playing the best football of his career, and no team has come close to slowing Kareem Hunt down. Kirk Cousins and the offense struggle in Arrowhead, and the Chiefs move to 4-0.
Prediction: 30-20 Chiefs
