24. Pittsburgh Steelers (2005)
Pittsburgh was 7-5 and losers of three in a row when it closed the regular season with four consecutive victories. The Steelers defense allowed 33 points over those four contests. That defensive dominance continued in the playoffs when Pittsburgh beat the top three seeds – Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Denver – on the road to meet Seattle in Super Bowl XL. Keeping with the defensive theme, the Steelers held Seattle to 10 points for the 11-point victory and a somewhat unlikely Super Bowl season.
