Here’s a look at New Arena’s NFL Power Rankings heading into Week 4:
32. Arizona Cardinals
Week 3 result: Lost to Chicago 16-14
Up Next: vs. Seattle
The Cardinals lost a very winnable game due in large part to Sam Bradford’s poor play. After a great first quarter Bradford fell apart an turned the ball over three times. Head Coach Steve Wilks threw rookie QB Josh Rosen straight into the fire, summoning the UCLA product to attempt a game-winning drive in his first appearance as a pro. The effort came up short, but Rosen has been named the starting QB for Week 4.
31. Buffalo Bills
Week 3 result: Defeated Minnesota 27-6
Up Next: @ Green Bay
In a complete shocker the Bills went into Minnesota and absolutely dominated the heavily-favored Vikings. Josh Allen ran for two touchdowns and threw for another, while Buffalo’s defense forced Kirk Cousins into three turnovers. The Bills put forth a great performance against Minnesota, but they must improve drastically offensively if they want to continue to be competitive.
30. Houston Texans
Week 3 result: Lost to New York Giants 27-22
Up Next: @ Indianapolis
The Texans began the year as a trendy pick to win the AFC. After three poor performances, Houston will be playing to salvage their season this weekend in Indianapolis. Deshaun Watson doesn’t look comfortable at all, and there is no running game to speak of. There is still time for Houston to rebound, but the early returns aren’t promising.
29. Oakland Raiders
Week 3 result: Lost to Miami 28-20
Up Next: vs. Cleveland
The Raiders have held a lead at halftime in all three games, and have not ran an offensive play while trailing during the third quarter thus far. So why are the Raiders 0-3? Jon Gruden’s men have been outscored 37-3 in the fourth quarter. Poor adjustments and costly turnovers have been detrimental to the Raiders’ chances, but there are still some signs of promise. Oakland must overcome Baker Mayfield and the Browns this weekend if they want to have any chance of competing for a playoff spot.
28. New York Jets
Week 3 result: Lost to Cleveland 21-17
Up Next: @ Jacksonville
After an explosive start to the season in Detroit, Sam Darnold and the Jets have fallen back to Earth. Turnovers have been crippling in their last two losses, including three giveaways against the Browns last Thursday. Darnold can’t afford to be careless against the Jaguars if the Jets have any chance to capture their second victory.
27. San Francisco 49ers
Week 3 result: Lost to Kansas City 38-27
Up Next: @ Los Angeles Chargers
Losing Jimmy Garoppolo for the rest of the season likely means the 49ers season is also lost. Already playing without their starting running back, San Francisco is now without their franchise quarterback. The 49ers are 1-10 without Garoppolo the past two seasons. With the Rams looking like a well-oiled machine, San Francisco should start looking ahead to the draft.
26. New York Giants
Week 3 result: Defeated Houston 27-22
Up Next: vs. New Orleans
In a battle of disappointing teams, the New York Football Giants secured their first victory of the season. Behind Saquon Barkley — and an efficient Eli Manning — New York controlled the game from the start. New York’s defense has been impressive thus far, but they still can’t get to the quarterback. The Giants’ success will likely come down to their ability to protect Manning (currently allowing a sack on 9.7 percent of dropbacks) and getting after the opposing QB (29th in sacks).
25. Dallas Cowboys
Week 3 result: Lost to Seattle 24-13
Up Next: vs. Detroit
Dak Prescott is not a star quarterback. It is that simple. While Prescott doesn’t have much help on offense aside from Zeke Elliott, the fact remains that Dak is simply a mediocre QB. Prescott’s inability to throw the ball downfield will be a detriment throughout the season. It may be time for Dallas to search for their quarterback of the future.
24. Cleveland Browns
Week 3 result: Defeated New York Jets 21-17
Up Next: @ Oakland
What a time to be alive. The Browns finally won a football game, Baker Mayfield took over as the starting quarterback and the beer fridges were unlocked. The blitz-happy Browns will look to pickup back-to-back wins for the first time since 2014 as they take on the winless Raiders in Oakland.
23. Indianapolis Colts
Week 3 result: Lost to Philadelphia 20-16
Up Next: vs. Houston
Although the Colts weren’t able to pull out a victory in Philly, fans must be encouraged that the team has had a chance to win all three games so far. Andrew Luck still doesn’t look 100 percent — getting pulled for a Hail Mary attempt doesn’t help that notion — but he should improve as the year goes on. Rookie linebacker Darius Leonard has been tremendous, registering 41 tackles and three sacks on the season.
22. Detroit Lions
Week 3 result: Defeated New England 26-10
Up Next: @ Dallas
Thanks to Kerryon Johnson, the Lions have their first 100-yard rusher since 2013. Using a balanced attack, Detroit easily handled New England to pick up their first win of the season. With Minnesota and Green Bay losing on Sunday, the Lions are still in the thick of the NFC North race. In order to continue their winning ways, Detroit must commit to stopping the run — currently ranked 31st is rushing yards allowed.
21. Seattle Seahawks
Week 3 result: Defeated Dallas 24-13
Up Next: @ Arizona
With their first-round pick, Rashaad Penny, struggling to make an impact, the Seahawks relied on Chris Carson to carry the load on the ground. Seattle won their home-opener in convincing fashion behind Carson’s 100-yard day and Russell Wilson’s efficient passing attack. Next up is a date with rookie QB Josh Rosen.
20. Washington Redskins
Week 3 result: Defeated Green Bay 31-17
Up Next: BYE
The first three weeks of Washington’s season has been a tale of two teams. Thanks to Adrian Peterson’s career renaissance the Redskins enter Week 4 at 2-1. Through three weeks, Peterson has rushed for 236 yards and three touchdowns. With the Eagles looking vulnerable, the Redskins might be the best bet to dethrone the champs in the NFC East.
19. Denver Broncos
Week 3 result: Lost to Baltimore 27-14
Up Next: vs. Kansas City
Denver found out that Baltimore is a different team at home. It was an all-around poor effort from the Broncos, and the Ravens took full advantage. Case Keenum struggled to get going as the Broncos were shut out the final 45 minutes of play. A huge matchup with the division-leading Chiefs on Monday night will tell us a lot about the Broncos’ potential.
18. Tennessee Titans
Week 3 result: Defeated Jacksonville 9-6
Up Next: vs. Philadelphia
While the Titans have won back-to-back games, the offense has struggled mightily — the Titans have gone 18 consecutive drives without a touchdown. A victory over Jacksonville gives Tennessee an early lead in the AFC South, and puts them in a good position going forward. Marcus Mariota will have to play much better, but the Titans’ defense will keep them in most games.
17. Green Bay Packers
Week 3 result: Lost to Washington 31-17
Up Next: vs. Cleveland
Clay Matthews’ and his penchant for roughing the passer penalties will be the talk of the NFL all week, but the biggest problem emanating out of Green Bay remains the health of Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is clearly injured and appears to be playing on one leg. It seems like only a matter of time before Rodgers is forced to sit out.
16. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Week 3 result: Lost to Pittsburgh 30-27
Up Next: @ Chicago
After the Buccaneers spotted Pittsburgh a 30-10 halftime lead, Ryan Fitzpatrick’s time appeared to be nearing an end. The NFL’s leading passer threw three first half interceptions, but turned it around in the final 30 minutes, almost completing the comeback — ultimately falling three points short. With Jameis Winston due to return from suspension this week it will be interesting to see which direction the coaching staff decides to go.
15. Cincinnati Bengals
Week 3 result: Lost to Carolina 31-21
Up Next: @ Atlanta
In their first game without running back Joe Mixon, the Bengals relied on the arm of Andy Dalton to provide a punch on offense. Dalton stepped up to the plate and completed four passes to Carolina defenders. The biggest concern coming out of Sunday has to be Cincy’s run defense. Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey rushed for 184 yards on only 28 carries. The AFC North is wide open, but Cincy must play better defensively if they want to contend for the crown.
14. Chicago Bears
Week 3 result: Defeated Arizona 16-14
Up Next: vs. Tampa Bay
In spite of Mitchell Trubisky’s desire to give the game to Arizona, Khalil Mack and the rest of Chicago’s defense secured a second victory for the Bears. Chicago’s front-seven has proved to be one of the fastest unit’s in the NFL. Mack is playing like the DPOY through three weeks and is raising the game of those around him. If Trubisky gets his act together the Bears could push for a playoff spot.
13. Baltimore Ravens
Week 3 result: Defeated Denver 27-14
Up Next: @ Pittsburgh
Heading into their showdown with the Steelers it was imperative that the Ravens took care of business at home. By shutting down Denver’s passing attack and taking care of the ball offensively, they did just that. Baltimore will want to keep Pittsburgh’s offense off the field as much as possible, making running back Alex Collins an important player in Sunday’s contest.
12. Pittsburgh Steelers
Week 3 result: Defeated Tampa Bay 30-27
Up Next: vs. Baltimore
The Steelers are still without Le’Veon Bell, have had problems with Antonio Brown, are the most penalized team in the NFL (37), and yet they are in a good spot. After collecting their first win of the season over Fitzmagic and the Bucs, Pittsburgh is readying for a tense affair with the Ravens. A victory over their hated rival would result in a huge confidence boost.
11. Los Angeles Chargers
Week 3 result: Lost to Los Angeles Rams 35-23
Up Next: vs. San Francisco
The Chargers have had the pleasure of playing the two hottest teams in the NFL within their first three games. LA has allowed a combined 73 points in losses to the Rams and Chiefs. Things get easier this week as the Jimmy G-less 49ers come to town. The Chargers should take advantage of a weak schedule and rise in the AFC.
10. Miami Dolphins
Week 3 result: Defeated Oakland 28-20
Up Next: @ New England
The Dolphins have a massive opportunity ahead of them this week. Heading into Foxboro at 3-0, a victory over the 1-2 Patriots would put the Dolphins three games ahead of their divisional-foe. A three-game advantage would be massive for the franchise, putting them in great position to win the AFC East for the first time since 2008 — which would end a nine-year Patriot run atop the standings.
9. New England Patriots
Week 3 result: Lost to Detroit 26-10
Up Next: vs. Miami
Their loss at Jacksonville was understandable, but the Patriots’ loss in Detroit was troubling. The Pats looked slow, disinterested and showed little fight. Tom Brady has very few weapons around him, but has possible reinforcements on the way in the form of Josh Gordon and Julian Edelman. It is far too early to be seriously concerned about the Pats, but a loss at home to Miami would send New England into panic mode.
8. Minnesota Vikings
Week 3 result: Lost to Buffalo 27-6
Up Next: @ Los Angeles Rams
Maybe the Vikings were caught looking ahead to their showdown with the Rams? Regardless, they have absolutely zero excuse for getting smoked at home by the hapless Bills. This week will be a huge test for the Vikings. A close game is to be expected, but if the Vikes come out flat they may be forced to look in the mirror.
7. Atlanta Falcons
Week 3 result: Lost to New Orleans 43-37
Up Next: vs. Cincinnati
The Falcons’ defense has been decimated by injuries. Four starters overall — Ricardo Allen, Keanu Neal, Deion Jones, and Andy Levitre — are out for the season. The team has enough firepower on offense to make a push for the postseason, but playing in a division with the Saints and Panthers seriously hurts their chances. More importantly, the defense must create more pressure on the quarterback and do a better job stopping the run.
6. Carolina Panthers
Week 3 result: Defeated Cincinnati 31-21
Up Next: BYE
If Christian McCaffrey can continue to run like he did on Sunday the Panthers can beat any team in the NFL. Defensively, the Panthers have been mostly stout. Their only problems have stemmed in the red zone where teams are seven-for-seven scoring touchdowns. Behind Cam Newton and a breakout campaign from McCaffrey, the Panthers may be the favorite in the NFC South.
5. Philadelphia Eagles
Week 3 result: Defeated Indianapolis 20-16
Up Next: @ Tennessee
The Eagles have yet to look like themselves, but there is hope on the horizon. Carson Wentz made his return to the field against Indianapolis, and orchestrated a game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter. Philly is in for a defensive battle with the Titans this week before coming home to face the Vikings in a rematch of last year’s NFC Championship.
4. New Orleans Saints
Week 3 result: Defeated Atlanta 43-37
Up Next: @ New York Giants
The Saints’ defensive struggles have to be alarming a season removed from above-average play from that unit. Nonetheless, after leaving Atlanta with a hard-fought victory the Saints sit atop the NFC South. Drew Brees, Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas have been dominant thus far, making it hard to believe any team could shut them down. While the Saints can outscore anybody, they cannot continue to allow over 34 PPG.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars
Week 3 result: Lost to Tennessee 9-6
Up Next: vs. New York Jets
A week after making a major statement by dominating the Patriots, Jacksonville laid an egg. The Jags have now lost three-consecutive games to Tennessee, and five-of-six overall. Leonard Fournette was sorely missed this week as the Jags struggled to produce offensively. As long as the defense remains dominant the Jaguars will like their chances against any team in the AFC.
2. Kansas City Chiefs
Week 3 result: Defeated San Francisco 38-27
Up Next: @ Denver
Kansas City just keeps on rolling. Patrick Mahomes threw three more touchdowns in the first half as the Chiefs built a 35-10 halftime lead. KC’s defense remains an issue, but at this point it looks like there is no slowing down their potent attack. With Mahomes leading the way, the Chiefs are averaging a league-best 39.3 PPG.
1. Los Angeles Rams
Week 3 result: Defeated Los Angeles Chargers 35-23
Up Next: vs. Minnesota
The Rams passed their biggest test of the season in a commanding victory over Los Angeles’ other team. The health of Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters will be a concern going forward, but the Rams should take their time bringing them back. So far the NFL’s best team, LA welcomes Minnesota to the Coliseum on Thursday night in a battle between two of the main Super Bowl contenders.
