Star pass-rusher Josh Allen has agreed to a massive new deal that will keep him with the Jacksonville Jaguars for many years to come.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jaguars and Allen reached an agreement on a five-year/$150 million contract — including $88 million guaranteed. A two-time Pro Bowler, Allen had been placed under the franchise tag and was set to make $24 million next season if he didn’t receive a new contract.
The 26-year-old is coming off the best season of his career. In 2023, Allen set a franchise-record with 17.5 sacks — that mark was tied for second-best in the NFL. The No. 7 overall pick in 2019, Allen flourished as a rookie with 10.5 sacks. However, a knee injury robbed him of half of the 2020 season. Over the past three years, Allen ranks 10th in sacks (32) and sixth in pressures (228).
Remarkably, Allen’s extension marks just the third time since 2008 that one of Jacksonville’s first-round picks has signed on to stay with the team past their rookie deal. Defensive tackle Tyson Alualu (2010) and quarterback Blake Bortles (2014) are the two others.
With 45 career sacks, Allen ranks second all-time for the franchise and trails Tony Brackens by just 10 sacks. Barring another season of good health, Allen is likely to become the franchise leader in 2024.
