Despite its lousy record, Houston has been a rather competitive team for the past few months. On Sunday, the Texans needed a loss to secure the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Houston took a 17-7 lead into halftime, and led 24-14 late into the third quarter. After surrendering 17 unanswered points, the Texans appeared to be on their way to a 14th loss and the top pick. Instead, Davis Mills threw a touchdown pass with 50 seconds to play — and then converted on the ensuing two-point try to win the game. The Texans — who will now pick No. 2 in the draft — fired coach Lovie Smith following the win.
