To put it simply, this season has been a complete disaster for Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill. His inconsistency on the field and lack of leadership in the locker room are key reasons for the Dolphins’ atrocious 5-10 record.
In fact, the wife of one of Tannehill’s teammates claims the quarterback is the sole reason for Miami’s shortcomings. Miko Grimes, wife of Dolphins cornerback Brent Grimes, took to Twitter to express her frustration with Tannehill’s play.
Miko tweeted, “I knew this qb stunk the minute we signed to this team but I tried to keep quiet so I didn’t discourage bae from believing in his team.” She continued, “My Column: how many people does Ryan Tannehill have to get fired before you realize he’s the problem.”
Miko is referring to Tannehill’s six-year, $96 million contract extension he signed this offseason, and the firings of head coach Joe Philbin and offensive coordinator Bill Lazor which have taken place this season. While Tannehill’s play certainly warrants criticism, social media is far from the ideal place to express this frustration.
The Dolphins’ front office has spoken with Brent and Miko about her use of social media multiple times, as the organization worries Miko is relaying her husband’s opinions. While interim head coach Dan Campbell tried to downplay the situation, it’s easy to think there is a rift between Tannehill and Brent.
Between Brent’s steep decline in play this season and Miko’s PR nightmares for Miami’s front office, this week’s game against the New England Patriots will likely be Brent’s last in a Dolphins uniform.
