27. Tyrann Mathieu
Before being dismissed from LSU in 2012, Mathieu proved himself to be one of the most productive defensive players in the country. Nicknamed ‘The Honey Badger’ due to his physical and tenacious style of play, Mathieu shut down opposing offenses while also helping out on special teams. Mathieu notched 59 tackles, three sacks, and two interceptions as a freshman.
Mathieu recorded 77 tackles and forced five fumbles his sophomore year. Endearing himself to LSU supporters and fans across America, Mathieu provided plenty of excitement in recovering four fumbles — two of which he returned for touchdowns — and picking off two passes. Mathieu returned two punts for touchdowns as well, earning himself the Bednarik Award in addition to finishing as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.
