The 1969 Texas Longhorns included 14 future NFL players — led by the No. 21 pick in the 1969 NFL Draft, Bob McKay. Running the wishbone for just the second year, Texas’ offense took off. The Longhorns finished third in the country in points per game, averaging 39.5 points per contest. Defensively, Texas allowed 10.8 PPG to finish 10th of 122 teams. Texas manhandled eight of its 11 opponents. The three competitive games? The Red River Shootout against Oklahoma (27-17), a showdown with No. 2 Arkansas in Fayetteville (15-14), and the Cotton Bowl against No. 9 Notre Dame (21-17).
