Zion Williamson Injured Late in Loss to Lakers

The best game of Zion Williamson’s career ended with 3:13 remaining in the fourth quarter Tuesday night. Amid a great rally that saw New Orleans erase an 18-point deficit, Williamson injured his left leg following a successful shot and immediately walked to the locker room.

Williamson’s final basket tied the game at 95-95. The Lakers called a timeout and Williamson took a seat on the bench. Seconds later, Williamson paced to the locker room and chucked a towel on his way out of frustration. His final line — 40 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

After the game, the Pelicans stated that Williamson would undergo tests on Wednesday to determine what is going on with his leg. As the star left the arena, he didn’t appear to be limping and wasn’t sporting any visible wraps or braces.

“Right now, it’s left leg soreness and he’s going to get imaging on it tomorrow,” Pelicans coach Willie Green said. “We will figure out more. That’s the report I got back. I haven’t talked to him. But we’ll see what happens tomorrow when we get the results back.”

“It was tough to see him go down. We are all praying and hoping he is OK. He was battling. He was going. The team was right there with him. It’s tough. We’ll see what happens and go from there.”

The Pelicans will host the Sacramento Kings Friday night for an opportunity to face the 1-seed Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round. If Zion can’t go, New Orleans’ chances of winning are certainly diminished.
