Re-Drafting The Absolutely Stacked 2009 NBA Draft

30. Jordan Hill – Cleveland Cavaliers

Original Spot For Hill: 8th Overall (Knicks)
Original 30th Pick: Christian Eyenga

High energy and solid rebounding has kept Jordan Hill in the league for a number of years, but he seems to be fizzling out after a disappointing season with the T’Wolves. The best part of his career came during his time with the Lakers, averaging career highs of 12.0 points and 7.9 rebounds in 2015.

29. Chase Budinger – Los Angeles Lakers

Original Spot For Budinger: 44th Overall (Pistons to Rockets)
Original 29th Pick: Toney Douglas

A teammate of Hill’s at Arizona, Budinger once had a bright looking future as an NBA role player. His lack of offensive versatility was ultimately his downfall, with his lone claim to fame being a second place finish in the 2012 Slam Dunk Contest. Maybe it could have been different had he been drafted to a team with Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol?

28. Dante Cunningham – Minnesota Timberwolves

Original Spot For Cunningham: 33rd Overall (Trail Blazers)
Original 28th Pick: Wayne Ellington

Cunningham continues to find work around the league due to his ferocious defense and ability to play both forward spots. He’s a springy athlete that’s good for a couple of highlight reel blocks every year.

27. Aron Baynes – Memphis Grizzlies

Original Spot For Baynes: Undrafted
Original 27th Pick: DeMarre Carroll

The Spurs used Baynes in spot minutes for a number of years, and Detroit saw enough of the Washington State product to ink him for a 3-year/$20 million deal in the 2015 offseason. He’s now playing solid backup minutes for the Pistons, and would fit in perfectly with the Grizzlies’ bruising play style.

26. Marcus Thornton – Chicago Bulls

Original Spot For Thornton: 43rd Overall (Heat to Hornets)
Original 26th Pick: Taj Gibson

Thornton splashed onto the scene in his rookie year out of LSU, putting up big scoring totals in limited minutes. Teams began to figure out the one-dimensional gunner’s play style, but he’s still finding ways to contribute in a backup role with the Wizards.
