9. 2012: Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Miami Heat
In the lockout shortened season, the No. 2 seeds from the Eastern and Western Conferences met in the NBA Finals. It was Miami’s second consecutive trip to the Finals, while it was the first time Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook had ever won the West.
The LeBron James-Kevin Durant showdown was supposed to be a fascinating one, as the two were widely considered the two biggest superstars in the NBA at the time. Durant and the Thunder got the better of Miami in Game 1, winning 105-94, but the joy for Oklahoma City ended there.
The Heat proceeded to win the next four games without much intrigue, taking Game 2 in Oklahoma City before winning the next three games in front of their home crowd. LeBron James finally got his first NBA title and was named Finals MVP, but it was a lopsided series that few consider memorable.
