Minnesota’s Karl-Anthony Towns Injures Knee

Sources informed ESPN on Thursday morning that Karl-Anthony Towns has sustained a left meniscus injury — leaving the Minnesota star’s immediate future in doubt.

Towns is currently undergoing additional evaluations to determine whether an immediate medical procedure or rehab could expedite his return to the Timberwolves roster, sources said.

The unfortunate timing of Towns’ injury comes at a crucial point for both him and the Timberwolves (43-19), who currently share the top position in the Western Conference standings alongside the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Throughout this season, Towns has maintained impressive averages of 22.1 points and 8.4 rebounds while boasting a 42% success rate from beyond the arc across 60 games. Minnesota has a formidable front line featuring the likes of Rudy Gobert and Naz Reid, but KAT’s health will be paramount to the team’s chances in the playoffs. Last year, Towns appeared in just 29 games in the regular season due to a pair of calf injuries.

Starting tonight, Minnesota will play its next six games on the road — @ Pacers, @ Cavaliers, @ Lakers, @ Clippers, @ Jazz (twice).
