Giannis Antetokounmpo Avoids Achilles Injury

Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks are breathing a sigh of relief this morning. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Antetokounmpo’s left Achilles tendon is fully intact following last night’s injury.

In a strong victory over the No. 1 seed Boston Celtics, Antetokounmpo fell to the ground in a heap while trying to run up the court. The non-contact injury saw Antetokounmpo immediately reach for his left leg. After a few moments on the court, the star’s teammates helped carry him back toward the locker room.

While fans feared for the worst, Milwaukee initially reported that Antetokounmpo suffered a strained soleus — a muscle in the calf. However, in his post-game presser, Doc Rivers stated that the star would have his Achilles tendon tested in addition to having an MRI on his calf — stating his concern over Antetokounmpo’s status was “high” and that the Bucks were “going to hope for the best.”

Ahead of last night’s 13-point win over the Celtics, Milwaukee had lost four games in a row. Now, the team’s lead over the New York Knicks (47-32) for the No. 2 seed in the East is down to one game. Antetokounmpo will miss the three remaining games on Milwaukee’s schedule and will be re-evaluated before the playoffs get underway. The first round of the NBA playoffs starts April 20.
