Bronny James, son of LeBron James, will enter his name into the 2024 NBA Draft. In addition to testing the draft waters, James will maintain his college eligibility and enter the transfer portal — he announced Friday on Instagram.
A McDonald’s All-American coming out of high school, James opted to join the USC Trojans for college. Unfortunately, James suffered a traumatic cardiac arrest episode in July and subsequently underwent a procedure to treat a congenital heart defect. The scary situation resulted in James missing five months as he recovered.
While playing for an underperforming Trojan team, James struggled to find a rhythm. Bronny appeared in 25 games for USC and averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19 minutes a game. After beginning the year ranked No. 21 in the preseason poll, USC finished 15-18.
Due to his cardiac arrest and the procedure that followed, the NBA will need to evaluate James and he will need the approval of the NBA’s fitness-to-play panel before becoming eligible to take part in the draft combine — as well as be drafted by a team.
If James opts to return to college, sources say Duquesne may be a landing spot.
