MLB The Show 2024 Announces Female Player Option

There’s a mass amount of hype centered around MLB The Show 24. The game itself will be universally released on March 19th. However, there is an early access option that will come into play on March 15th. With the release of every new video game comes unique bells and whistles which differ from earlier iterations.

On March 5th, Sony San Diego released a new trailer that offered everyone a glimpse into just how different this game will be. In the Road to the Show setting — where you can play as a prospect throughout the Minor Leagues before making it to the Big Leagues — users can now play with female characters.

As the trailer showed, a young girl was sitting in her bedroom before embarking on a digital journey which showed several female players competing in action versus other MLB athletes. “Women Pave Their Way” is the tagline being used with this specific wrinkle to the 2024 iteration of the game. Whether it was turning a double play, hitting a home run, making a diving catch, or striking out a batter, the gameplay did show female players participating for a host of different ballclubs. The video finishes with a “Unlock Your Dreams” message.

This newfound element of the game is a tremendous idea. Having female representation is always a good thing, and it opens the door for a new demographic to not only play the game but also potentially become a fan of the sport of baseball. The sport is lacking compared to some of the other major ones within the United States from a marketing standpoint. By drumming up more interest in a plethora of ways, baseball could be revived from past decades when it was among the most-watched sports in the country.

Tapping into a digital medium where kids and adults alike participate seems like a very sound idea. MLB The Show 24 is said to be available on essentially all major console platforms. However, it’s not slated to be available on PC at this time.
