30. Oakland Athletics (12-49)
This Week: @ Pittsburgh, @ Milwaukee
Despite going 2-4 last week, the Oakland Athletics enjoyed what may be the best week of their season. In a shocking turn of events, Oakland won just its second series of the season…and it took two-of-three from the juggernaut Braves to do so. The A’s won the opening game comfortably, 7-2, and won Game 2 by one run. Perhaps riding a high from those two surprising wins, the A’s lost four-straight to end the week and were outscored 27-8.

29. Kansas City Royals (18-41)
This Week: @ Miami, @ Baltimore
Only two teams in baseball have fewer than 25 wins — the Athletics and the Royals. Being in the same company as the 2023 Oakland A’s is not a good place to be. Kansas City trails the first-place Twins by 12.5 games, and is 7.0 GB of Chicago for fourth-place in the American League Central. Both of the club’s victories last week came as a result of strong pitching. The staff came close to throwing a combined-perfect game in a 7-0 win over the Cardinals, and held the Rockies to zero runs on Sunday.
