Chicago Cubs – Kyle Schwarber – OF
It’s hard to choose a most important player when the Cubs are so well rounded, but one potential area of concern could be Schwarber’s defensive ability. His value was on full display when he returned for the World Series and showed what he is capable of with a bat, but will his injuries and overall heavier build effect his mobility in the outfield? There are few, if any, holes on the Cubs roster, but Schwarber’s ability to defend may be a slight weakness on this otherwise stout defensive club.

Chicago White Sox – Carlos Rodon – LHP
With Chris Sale shipped off to Boston, the weight of expectations shifts to the shoulders of Carlos Rodon. The third overall pick in the 2014 draft, Rodon will join Jose Quintana atop the Chicago rotation. But with Quintana another candidate to be traded, the future rides on Rodon. The White Sox received good news regarding Rodon’s shoulder, finding no structural damage, but diagnosing Rodon with bursitis in his left biceps.
If Rodon can stay healthy throughout the season, he should show the White Sox and the rest of baseball that he is capable of being the team’s future ace.
