The Oakland Athletics have disclosed their plans to spend the upcoming three seasons playing at a minor league ballpark situated in West Sacramento, before their anticipated relocation to Las Vegas for the 2028 season.
In a statement released on Thursday, the team confirmed that they would be calling Sutter Health Park home for the duration of the 2025 to 2027 seasons. This ballpark currently serves as the home field for the Sacramento River Cats, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Notably, the agreement includes an option year for the team to continue playing in Sacramento in 2028 — in the event that their new stadium in Las Vegas is not yet prepared.
This announcement marks the conclusion of the Athletics’ 56-year tenure in Oakland. Having made the move from Kansas City in 1968, the team secured four World Series titles during their time in Oakland.
“We explored several locations for a temporary home, including the Oakland Coliseum. Even with the long-standing relationship and good intentions on all sides in the negotiations with Oakland, the conditions to achieve an agreement seemed out of reach,” Athletics owner Josh Fisher said in a statement. “We understand the disappointment this news brings to our fans, as this season marks our final one in Oakland. Throughout this season, we will honor and celebrate our time in Oakland, and will share additional details soon.”
Entering play on Thursday, the A’s hold a 1-6 record.
