The platypus has a sense of mystique to it. The species primarily comes from the eastern part of Australia. As such, many have never been able to witness one of these creatures in person. Not only that, but — while cute — these animals look like some sort of science experiment between a duck, an otter, and a beaver. Interestingly enough, these animals are quite dangerous. As a means to hunt, it senses prey using electrical charges (which it can also emit to stun other animals). Duly, a spur on the back of the males’ feet is venomous — and quite unpleasant for humans if hit by the venom.
