The crossover between sports and entertainment continues to surge very positively. The latest connection comes in the form of a new show set to release featuring former NFL star Vernon Davis.

Dido Belle Productions announced the start of production on the highly-anticipated series Match Point. Billed as a comedic sports mockumentary, the 10-episode series will feature Davis, actor/comedians Rob Gordon and Ashley Haas (pROBlematic), and Omar Bolden (Nice & Neat, REVOLT TV). Joslyn Rose Lyons — an Emmy-nominated director (“Stand” Showtime Sports/Paramount Plus) and award-winning filmmaker — will be the series director, writer, and creator.

Davis, Lyons, and Dominique Mouton (The Lower Bottoms) also serve as Executive Producers, with Johanna Saldaña (Blindspotting) joining as Creative Executive and Erika Connor as a Producer. Bolden and Davis are set to play former Olympic gold medalists. Their characters host a podcast called ‘Match Point’ — where they encounter hilarious hijinks involving unique guests and a wacky production team.

“I’m excited to bring Match Point to audiences with a fun and innovative take on sports and comedy. Transitioning from a Super Bowl champion to acting has been an incredible journey, and teaming up with Joslyn Rose Lyons again will elevate this project to new heights. I can’t wait for viewers to enjoy this entertaining series.” — Vernon Davis on Match Point

The series aims to illuminate the podcasting platform in a way both comedically funny and authentically endearing, with the ultimate goal of showcasing entertainment and sports meshed together in a quirky way for audiences to thoroughly enjoy.

According to Lyons, “My vision is to create a series that not only entertains but also challenges conventional storytelling norms. We’re aiming to bring a fresh wave of humor and inventive storytelling to the screen.”

NFL fans should be delighted over the appearance of Davis in this series. A former two-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl Champion with the Denver Broncos, Davis enjoyed a 14-year career before retiring in 2019. Since then, he’s been heavily involved in the world of entertainment. Davis has been associated with over 30 projects — many of which involve some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

Production for Match Point is said to begin on September 9.
