Ferris Bueller is pure wish fulfillment. It’s the fantasy we’ve all had of bunking off school/work and spending a day living life to the fullest. Nobody wrote teenagers like John Hughes, and Ferris was his masterwork Matthew Broderick played a cocky teen who was nevertheless seductive and likable. In essence, the self-confident popular kid we’d all like to be. The ultimate in skipping-school/fancy-free fun, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off remains one of the best feel-good films ever made. Broderick’s cocky charm as the fourth-wall-breaking narrator Ferris remains one of his most iconic performances to date. Call in sick and spend the day watching this.
