Bryan Cranston — Sebastian Shaw
After the disappointing X-Men: The Last Stand and Origins: Wolverine, Fox’s core superhero franchise needed a shakeup. Reimagined as a prequel set in the 1960s, X-Men: First Class featured young stars — James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence, among others — who were sorely needed to breathe fresh air into the franchise. Though Kevin Bacon was the malicious Sebastian Shaw, Bryan Cranston was offered the role first. It could have been another milestone in Cranston’s vastly diverse career, but in the end it was a smart move — the X-Men’s prequel-focused entries eventually had severely dwindling quality, something Cranston seems to always avoid.
