Thursday, Mar. 16 will forever be a day etched into the Northwestern record books.
The Wildcats — in their first-ever NCAA Tournament — defeated Vanderbilt by a score of 68-66. Northwestern will now take on top-ranked Gonzaga on Saturday in Salt Lake City.
This contest was not for the faint of heart — especially if one deals with actual heart problems. After being down 15 points, Vandy furiously roared back to take a one-point lead with 17.8 seconds left courtesy of a Riley LaChance bucket.
Then…this happened:

Inexplicably, Matthew Fisher-Davis fouled Northwestern point guard Bryant McIntosh on the in-bounds play. The Wildcats were in the bonus — thus sending McIntosh to the line.
Fisher-Davis apparently wasn’t clear on the current situation of the game. An 86-percent shooter from the line, McIntosh knocked both down en route to winning the contest.
It’s a shame for Fisher-Davis — considering he led Vandy in scoring on the afternoon with 22 points.
With that said, this unfortunate play will go down as an all-time horrible mistake.
