18. Texas Tech
Miami football’s “Turnover Chain” has a direct rival in Lubbock, TX with Texas Tech’s “Rebound Chain”. The name doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, but the blinged out jewelry has helped motivate the Red Raiders into one of the best defensive squads in the country.
Texas Tech suffocates their opponents from the jump. Everybody that steps on the floor for the Red Raiders is athletic and willing to get after it. Their brand of team defense holds true through the postseason, and can single handedly win them close games.
On offense, they’re led by dynamic senior guard Keenan Evans. Although he’s the team’s top scorer, Evans is also a magnificent defender, wreaking havoc with his pesky hands and quick feet.
Every year, a lesser team rises up the ranks due to the brilliance of a single player. Steph Curry did it with Davidson, and even Buddy Hield did it during his time as a Sooner. However, nobody has done it to the same degree as freshman sensation Trae Young.
Young leads all of D-1 in both points and assists. A three-point assassin with a tight handle, Young makes defenders look foolish on a nightly basis. He’s able to get his shot off whenever he likes, and is adept at setting up teammates in the half court.
As long as Young continues his current level of play, the Sooners will have a chance against anybody. If just one other teammate can step up in crunch time, Oklahoma will become a serious threat.
