While they might not be winning at a super high level nationally, no one can scoff at the recruiting process of the Duke Blue Devils Basketball program at the moment.
Case-in point Friday afternoon, where Duke landed the commitments of two players with a surname most NBA fans will be familiar with. Announcing to multiple media outlets, 2025 prospects Cameron and Cayden Boozer have committed to Duke. Yes, they are indeed the sons of former Duke/NBA All-Star player Carlos Boozer.
The fraternal twins have long been known on the AAU circuit. Hailing from Miami, each are prolific prospects. Cayden is a 6’4″ guard ranked No. 21 overall in the class of 2025 by 247Sports (think a taller Deron Williams). Cameron is a 6’9″ power forward ranked No. 2 nationally — just behind AJ Dybantsa.
Cameron Boozer is considered to be an elite NBA prospect. His passing skills are phenomenal, and he can beat you in the post over his right shoulder, or from the perimeter. He’d be a true modern-day NBA player with terrific versatility.
The twins picked Duke over their hometown Miami. It was a tough blow for the Hurricanes, as many thought they’d sneak in and win out here. However, the allure of Duke apparently was far too strong — as were the family connections. At one time, father Carlos was an all-everything recruit hailing from the state of Alaska. He had a decorated career at Duke before going to the NBA where he played over a decade.
It will be fascinating to see how the Boozer twins fare in Durham. With Cooper Flagg surely staying only one year, there’s a real probability next year’s team will utilize Cameron Boozer as the main focal point. It also speaks to Jon Scheyer and Duke’s NIL program. It’s arguably the best pairing in the sport. The next step for Duke is becoming a credible National Title contender. With Flagg on the roster this year, that certainly seems like a potential possibility.
