Back to School – The 25 Best Returning Players in College Basketball

23. DeVante’ Jones, Michigan

2020-21 Stats: 19.3 PPG, 7.2 RPG, 2.9 APG, 2.8 SPG, 0.2 BPG, 26 games played

Juwan Howard went to the transfer portal to rebuild Michigan’s backcourt. DeVante’ Jones will play his fourth year of college ball for the Wolverines. The 6-foot-1 Louisiana native formerly played for Coastal Carolina where he was a three-year starter for the Chanticleers. As a sophomore, Jones took on a major playmaking role and dished out 5.7 APG. With Coastal Carolina’s nominal point guard on the floor last year, Jones switched to an off-the-ball role and became a 20 PPG scorer.

Jones gives Michigan the type of dynamic, scoring guard they didn’t have last season. He’s highly efficient and knows how to get to the free throw line (4.9 career FTA) and convert (85.5-percent). He faded towards the end of the season, but Jones was red-hot from three through Coastal Carolina’s first 13 games (45.9-percent on 5.7 attempts). Jones isn’t just a scorer, though. He’s got a great motor and is an excellent rebounder for a diminutive guard. Jones finished third in the nation in steals per game and is a master of pilfering the basketball from weak ball handlers.
