There’s truly no precedence as to how one would develop these urges. As a young child, Sagawa would play games with his brother, father, and uncle. The father would dress up as a knight — whereas the uncle would play the role of a giant. If his father ‘won’ the bout, the children would be safe. If his uncle — playing the role of the villain — was victorious, the giant would then be able to ‘eat’ the children. There’s no evidence as to whether this somehow shaped Sagawa’s future — though his cravings for cannibalism continued to intensify as he got older.
